“The answer is not what can we do to prevent deaths because of a lack of health insurance. There’s?—?I reject that number completely, that people die in America because of lack of health insurance,” Santorum said to a crowd of 100. Link

It’s bad enough that a Presidential candidate says that, it’s worse if he believes it and it’s truly amazing that many people in the USA actually believe that. Sorry – that’s “many people who have good health insurance and don’t really have a clue”. Santorum and Romney look very scary from here both for the USA and the rest of the world. George W Bush did enough damage with the “God told me it was the right thing to do” approach and both these guys fit that mould perfectly. Isn’t it strange that the USA condemns so many other countries and faiths for their fundamentalism yet they are way more extreme in their views. I firmly believe that the words ‘health’ and ‘making a profit’ should never be acquainted. I was there when the Tories brought in NHS Trusts and I saw the way budget cuts impacted our Learning Disability service. But to say what he did beggars belief.

This is the dumbest, most inane and frankly stupid thing I have read all year .
http://www.alleyinsider.com/2008/12/trash-your-ex-on-craigslist-go-directly-to-jail

The pertinent point:

“The Colorado law bans statements “tending to blacken the memory of one who is dead” or that “impeach the honesty, integrity, virtue, or reputation or expose the natural defects of one who is alive.”

This also seems at odds with the US Constitution and what is says about Freedom of Expression.
So if you blog about someone in less than loving terms who lives in Colorado, or they live there and say anything other than wonderful things about you then the law can intervene.
If someone really wants some fun, file charges against every politician there – they lie professionally.

High Court judges have ruled psychiatric patients should not be allowed to smoke at a high security mental hospital.

“There is very strong evidence that smoking causes disease and endangers the health of the smokers themselves and other people who live and work in their vicinity. BBC

You can’t argue with the danger to others, but:

The judge added the smoking ban was also justified by security difficulties posed by allowing inmates – many of whom have “dangerous, violent or criminal propensities” – to smoke outside in Rampton’s grounds.

This is garbage. Rampton wants, Rampton gets. They can completely afford the security needed. This is a complete non-excuse. Seriously it is that bad.

Go back here:

There is very strong evidence that smoking causes disease and endangers the health of the smokers themselves

Here are the side-effects of ONE drug that someone now denied the right to smoke will be forced by law to have if prescribed:

Mild hand tremor; mild thirst; temporary, mild nausea and general discomfort at the beginning of treatment. Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blurred vision; confusion; diarrhea; drowsiness; excessive weight gain; fainting; giddiness; inability to control the bladder or bowels; increased thirst; increased or decreased urination; involuntary twitching or muscle movements; loss of consciousness; loss of coordination; muscle weakness; persistent headache; persistent or severe nausea; ringing in the ears; seizures; slow or irregular heartbeat; slurred speech; swelling of the ankles or wrists; unsteadiness; vision changes; vomiting. (There are a lot more) http://www.drugs.com/sfx/lithium-side-effects.html

There are many other drug cocktails the psychiatrists will be using in that hospital/prison
Have a smoke or take your Lithium – which would you rather?

I hope someone takes this to the Court of Human Rights. And I hope someone else forces all the staff and families there to stop smoking as that whole area of land is Health Service / Govt property. And don’t you just know that the person who actually started all this is one of those ex-smoker zealots?

The system wanted to upgrade Safari, so I just clicked the little button and carried on in Firefox. The next thing I know is that the computer needs to be rebooted.

That’s a whole OS to be rebooted JUST for a browser.

If Microsoft did that for IE the mac fanboys – and other mac users – would deride the event. Yet I hear no noise from the mac users. I also hear no noise for the continuing huge security updates which get pushed out with increasing frequency. If Apple had their own version of the Microsoft Tuesday then people would really see what is going on. Odd that sites go on about those Tuesdays but never mention what must be the increasing fragility of Apple’s OS.

Since when does a browser hook so deeply into a system that it even needs a reboot?

The domain name saga continues. I sent Nominet the surrender form and in a day or so i will no longer own that domain which has been at the centre of the trademark dispute. 5 minutes after Nominet remove me, anyone at all can buy that name. At which point regardless of what the new owner will use it for, the same solicitors will start harassing the new owner. But will they buy it? No. Will they spend £10 to avoid more costs? No. (Can’t think why……). Anyway, the .co.uk goes.
The .com is a little different. legal@namescout.com have yet to get back to me and I doubt they will. So it looks like the domain – which resolves to nowhere now – is mine until it lapses. At which point anyone can buy it and the legal pixies will again spring into action. Do these little legal people advise their client that paying $10 would get this domain name? No. Do they advise them that spending that $10 would save exorbitant legal fees? No. (Can’t think why……). So the .com is mine until September I think.

Now for the sake of clarity and because the law enforcer found this blog, I have no intention of renewing that domain name. The Undertakings I have signed would place a penalty on me and I can do without that hassle.

But, let’s say someone else bought that domain at a registrar that held privacy in high regard, and let’s say that same person bought hosting at Dreamhost and let’s say they started selling road surfacing materials then Tarmac, along with their expensive pixies, would be ****ed. And all for $10.

Lawyers. Clevur.
