I like the blue

I killed /T2 a week or more ago. It was just hanging around doing nothing and it’s time had to come at some point. I had previously imported all the /T2 content here so 2004-2007 I went to make private. I worked out how to do it with an sql query but got 2 numbers in the final post ID switched. Being off in dates I solved in the end by picking the start of 2009 as being the start of blogging here. I could have switched them all open and changed numbers but couldn’t be bothered at that moment. Not a big deal though. What I can’t do is affect the tag cloud, pretty sure that ignores private posts. Not a big deal though.

…. oh…. nearly forgot….

Green on grey

Not a great photo but the best I have after lying down in 2 fields taking shots of what I want – bugs, spider webs and other small stuff. The lenses I have are great but they don’t do the close-up stuff at all. So off to Amazon I go. I’ve already got a wide-angle listed there so I don’t forget it (some photo forum said it was good so I made a note for once). If I had a macro and a tripod I’d have a card full of ladybirds today. And I bet macros are hideously expensive.

Edit: Yes they are. The Sigma 105mm which gets good reviews is £400. That takes my wishlist for camera stuff only to £1000. Something to save for.

After a photo program

I am pulling photos from directories to put on a card for a digital photo frame for Jacqui. So I am checking every folder in /Pictures and I am finding a silly amount of duplication. I have one family christmas in 3 places for instance. Disk space doesn’t matter but a little more organisation would be nice. It would also be laborious and prone to error. The error does not matter as the photos are on the mini and a hd and mirrored on another hd but the laborious does. So that’s 9 folders of that one event. Daft. So there has to be a program that wil do all the sorting surely?

It would:

  • place all dupes into a single folder
  • sort all remaining images by exif data
  • place all those images into folders by month/year
  • place all images with no or incomplete exif data into another folder

Such code has to exist so I shall start trawling photo forums later today.

Fox!

Wait for fox, show the chicken, throw the chicken toward it, wipe hands, point camera and start clicking hopefully. These are untouched. Top image was the first piece of chicken, second and third are sequential.

No fox

Every night the foxes visit and night has become late afternoon. They will sit or lie at the end of the garden awaiting their grub. Of those that visit none are tame, all keep their distance but because there are 4 (at least) and a finite amount of food one of them is always checking early. Anyway, he appeared and I went to get the long lens on the camera and as you’d expect he didn’t hang around for me. Ended up in the broken greenhouse with the long lens hoping he’d come back so I could get a shot of him looking at the house. Never been sure of what the telephoto / macro thing was all about for the lens I had so I played, took a stack of pictures and – I think – worked it out.

fir cones
I was only happy with one though. A couple of the others could be improved with some image manipulation but I can’t be bothered and I’d not like the result anyway. So this one is untouched (apart from resizing to 550px) and yes, that was the image I was hoping for and I quite like it.

I’m hoping for the fox later….

Looking South

I have decided to move the contents of my old /T2 blog into this one. Not sure of some of the finer details – like showing the posts as opposed to making them all private – but I’m finding some images that have memories.

Looking South on Stinson Beach

Looking South on Stinson Beach

This was July 2007 just after WordCamp. The first picture I took was looking down at my feet as I stood in the Pacific Ocean for the first (and only so far) time. And then I took this which I uploaded to my old domain and sent Jacq and the girls the link. So the scene is nothing to look at really, the photograph is poor but the actions surrounding it were good, really good.
