Machine has felt slow at times and this morning the mds process went nuts taking up all the CPU it could get. 3 reboots later and it was okay. It still felt odd though so I decided to run Onyx. I’ve ran this many times and never had any issues. This time and somewhere around the Launch rebuild a popup with ‘System events got an error. Connection is invalid (-609)’ appears. Force quit Onyx, re-ran and got the same error. Rebooted, ran yet again and same error. Googling that gets nothing at all and even the Apple forums are unsure. I have Cocktail here so ran the pilot tab – all was good. Rebuilt launch services and that too was good. Quit that, ran Onyx and all was good there too. Cured.
I think I know what did it because of something I have been trying in the last 2-3 days. I’ll give it a couple of days then I’m going to test it – and if I’m right email a developer about their program.

Running Leopard.
Time Machine – can’t see the point as SuperDuper has done fine by me and I only want Users backed up anyway. This is a computer not a wiki.
Spotlight seems useful now, though why it keeps spinning up the backup drive is odd seeing as I have told it not to. Maybe it isn’t it..
They still haven’t fixed the clock to show the date. I know the workround but it should be an option.
The shiny dock. Hmm.
Stacks – I like stacks.
Spaces – I will love spaces. Zoom + Omnigraffle permanently in a space all ready for action. I’d like two browser instances (not windows) for spaces to be perfect for me. This is what XP does better – two instances.
Little icons – and Vista got knocked for eye candy?

So that’s it really.
Faster? Maybe.
Better looking? It’s all about performance surely?
Software? There’s a difference?

Now to check if Saft really is the only option for improving Safari before buying it. Primary need seeing as the tabs are utterly and completely unresizable is that the new tab must be opened next to and on the right of the active tab. Without that Safari is useless for work. Hanging tabs – how can anyone possibly work with those?

One night, no sleep and I boost by Stardust HD score by 500,000 points. But I’m now in the 29-30k high score position. 10 million is the next goal.

I’m hoping that last night with no sleep plus a slightly early night tonight will flip my sleep pattern closer to normal. It’s been way off since I got back from the US. Though I’m going to be that shot by the afternoon that the gym is probably out of the question.

Somehow I lost all the data on the MyBook the other day. I think the USB became loose in the back of the mini, the drive was dropped and the really important bit of the drive corrupted. All of a sudden a working drive turned into a blank disc. Nothing could get it to resurrect. So one big formatting later and it’s back and running. Luckily it had the backup of a backup so I’m definitely certain I lost nothing at all. Which is good. It’s annoying it happened though, and especially because I wasn’t messing around with it. I don’t think it was the drive itself – it performs just fine. We shall see.

And I finally settled on a theme here. It’s close to the last one but better because I didn’t create it. And less cluttered which it shall stay.
