My blog’s older than Twitter and Facebook, and it will outlive them. It has seen Flickr explode and then fade. It’s seen Google Wave and Google Reader come and go, and it’ll still be here as Google Plus fades. When Medium and Tumblr are gone, my blog will be here.
It doesn’t look it from the sidebar but posts in this blog go back to January 2004 when I first started using WordPress. For some reason ages ago I set old posts as drafts. I have no idea why. I sometimes ponder republishing them all just so I will get emails from Google – or maybe I won’t as I have no account with the advertising company – because there are people who would insist certain posts of mine were removed from that search engine’s results (Jon Warass, PC World, Gameseek to name but 3). Maybe.
What I genuinely do not understand is why so many people pour everything into facebook yet can’t be arsed to have a blog. They have a domain, they are totally capable of running one yet they choose facebook. Why? Convenience wins? Really?
There are people who have a blog yet will post to twitter and fb way more. Why? Don’t you care about your words?
I barely use fb. I stopped using twitter several weeks ago and don’t read or post to it. Too much noise. If it’s important at work I’ll find out through work. If it’s important to someone then they’ll blog it. If they have one that is.
Why don’t you have a blog? Seriously, why not?
