I have a fake Facebook ID which I use only when sites use this social extortion to reveal discounts/freebies. I’ve never posted on it. I just got an email from Facebook which says that “[my fake name] is waiting for you to see his post on your Timeline”. So it’s saying I posted on my timeline and hey, I might want to go look. So I did – and there is no post.

This is the same as the Twitter emails that say “So-and-so has messages for you, log in and read” and you realise they aren’t DM’s and the messages were for anyone.

So what these 2 companies are doing is getting their ‘logged in users’ number higher by lying.
