TT goes away

Back in the mists of WordPress time – that’ll be 2005 – many people in the wordpress.org forums were mystified by trackbacks. (In 2004 it was ftp among others). So I created a blog in the /wordpress directory on my old domain and that served only for people to ping and trackback to. They got somewhere that was linked to a How To and that they could perfect their techniques on. Worked a treat. Had hundreds and hundreds of posts, many times that in the inevitable pings / trackbacks to those posts. Every so often I’d clear the db and reinstall WP, change the theme, check what was going on but otherwise I left it alone. Last few days though I’ve been getting a few ‘Please moderate this comment’ emails and today I went to look. Several spam posts but one in particular had 860 spam comments thrown at it. None got through of course but 860? So with that and the other spam I’ve killed the blog. It’s 4 years later and thanks to spammers everyone know what a trackback and a ping is anyway. The rest of that /wordpress directory will be nuked at some point. It mostly harks back to 2004/5 when WP help was embryonic. I can still remember writing 7 ftp guides in a day or so..

The world's airline industry is urging …

The world’s airline industry is urging the UK government to abandon a rise in air passenger duty, which would mean long-haul flight prices rising.
and the argument is:

Julia Simpson, head of corporate communications at British Airways, said: “It is a crazy tax that the government should scrap.
“A family of four travelling to Australia is going to be facing a bill of £340 before they have set foot on the plane and paid for their tickets.”

I costed a family of 4 at British Airways and for the cheapest flights the cost is £ 2,780.40. Add to that transport, food, somewhere to stay, tourist stuff, drinks etc and I certainly don’t think an extra £340 is asking too much. Not at all.

In Tesco last week there was an opened packet of Farleys Rusks. It had been sellotaped closed. Who in hell would buy that for their kid? How the hell did someone at Tesco think they would be bought? I eat rusks (hence my noticing) but I wouldn’t buy it. Sealed plastic inside or not that box being unsealed = unsafe.

A while ago I saw a consultant rheumatologist for the pain in my right hand and he said it was rsi, nothing can be done etc. He discharged me back to my GP. All expected, nothing wrong there. I got sent a copy of the discharge letter today. I am described as “a pleasant 44 year old gentleman”. That sentence makes me feel very very old.
