I have CoD4 on 360 and PS3 now. And by the end of the week should have a decent headset for both. So online time!
I have not played any FPS online before. I assume there are several game types and learning the environments is key to them all (along with weapons that might suit each). But if you do play online what would you see as being good preparation in terms of playing the normal game? I would not expect to be excellent online by a long way but equally I don’t want to be a naive bullet magnet.
In the game so far I have got past the mission to protect the war pig (the mission before you get into the gunship). I’ve done up to there on the 360 and twice on the PS3 (first time was on my daughter’s profile so had to redo). That’s very limited experience I know and my ‘ohshititsagrenadethrowitbackquickBOOM’ isn’t so hot yet so I’d like to have more of a clue.
So where should I be?
Practice aiming for the head and learn the maps – god, long time since I played COD4 online.
Bits of them … ‘host’ your own multiplayer game, lock it with just you playing and you can explore the maps
I got so frustrated with online play I gave up. I didn’t pay for xbox live either after the month’s free trial as I was so crap at it. Wander around a map, crouched down etc and BANG, yer dead.
I was crouched behind a door one of the last times I played Modern Warfare online and suddenly collapsed dead. The death cam showed a guy sneaked up behind me and knifed me!
Don’t bother with the headset, all you’ll hear is (American?) teenagers calling each other “nigga” and “gay” and “queer”.
Loving Modern Warfare single player though. I’m playing through it again looking for all the laptops.
I would say jump into the online modes and follow some teammates around. See what they do. Everything is a learning process – camping spots, sniping posts, etc. I never felt that the single player is a good starting point for multiplayer, however. It helps you with the actual fundamentals of the game, but as for pwning n00bs, you need to get in and get dirty on the interwb.
And curse, a lot. Seriously.
The maps is the bit. I know the war pig is a map but I assume all other ground scenes are too?
And headshots – hah. Very much more accident than design right now :)
I didn’t know you could do that – but I haven’t rtfm’d at all yet. I’ll certainly give that a try.
Now all I need is a PS3 upstairs and we can have in-house multiplayer :) I reckon I could swing that one too!
I know it will frustrate me but knowing they can hear some good old-fashioned swear words will help me feel better :) The learning curve will be interesting. I bought it because I joined a gaming forum – http://oaps.org – and FPS is played a lot there. Rather than just jump in I wanted to get a clue first.
