Full charge should be around 5500 apparently and the cycle count is about half way. Time to speak to a genius.. (I have no applecare).
Update:
According the the “genius” at Apple Highcross the battery I have is working just as it should. Because it is “so old” it cannot hold charges. While I’d expect some degradation this much is pretty damn stupid.
And note it says “Check battery” not “Give Apple a hundred quid for another”.
What kind of mac is it?
Macbook Pro – but I have an update.
After the above I post to the Apple forums. They say to ring tech support and indicate some information
I ring Tech Support and tell them this information. They still say my battery is perfectly normal
Post back to the apple forums so others will know. Get pointed at yet more information and to ring back
Ring Tech Support and yet again I have a lovely battery that is simply too old.
Back to the forums. Customer Relations is the next stop. Have to phone Tech Supportand get past them to get to CR. I then talk to a nice lady who agrees that no matter how it is all looked at my battery is not eligible for replacement. But then after some chatting she does agree to get a new battery sent to me :)
Result!
We have over 2000 iBooks at work, it’s taken us over 3 years to get Apple to send replacements batteries to us after they announced there were problems with them.
We’ve send them serial numbers, purchase dates and shed loads of other stuff then the came back to us and said they’d send us the batteries but we would have to give them the old ones within two weeks or we would have to pay for the batteries.
After using several contacts we have with Apple they have agreed to send 60 batteries to Scotsys (whom we buy most of the macs from), we send the old batteries back and get new ones.
It’s a farce!
I could go on and on about how Apple don’t seem to care (you know how much I like my Macs) but it’s getting so annoying with them.
We are due to refresh 90% of our macs in the new financial year, I think they are just starting to realise the money may be getting spent elsewhere.
Oh, and good news on the battery… What was the forum?
That’s good news about the battery, finally! Your post reminded me to check the power supply on my Macbook. Sure enough, Adam had switched the wall socket off and I hadn’t noticed.
After 11 months my old Macbook had 4420mAh according to this old post of mine. Haven’t checked the new Macbook.
