The Daily Morality

That story involving Ross and Brand. It was the Daily Mail that saved the nation.

Well done to the Daily Mail for your excellent reporting and for taking a stand against the relentless degradation of our nation.

Nothing to do with 30,000 complaints, all the newspapers, politicians, BBC investigation and anyone else who had an opinion. It was down the moral discipline of the Daily Mail to save us from the cesspit of immorality. I know that papers will always blow their own trumpets but the problem here is not the DM (no, well it is actually but..) – it’s the readers. They are seriously odd. Just the comments on that one article show most have no sense of humour (one wants to get rid of Mock the Week) but others know just what is needed for the people. Funny thing is that it will be the Daily Mail that complain about the BBC ‘dumbing down’ but it is really clear that their readers need ‘clevering up’.

Question Time USA

The BBC’s Question Time in the USA. Gobsmacking. There are people there who firmly believe that the world does love the USA, that GWB has done good things, that they are right, that only the USA in the whole world can make things happen and only in America could other things happen. Deluded. Genuinely clueless. Ego’s R Us.

Games

Burnout Paradise. One race left and then all but 2 stunt runs. The race is from a junction north of Silver Lake to Waterfront Plaza and the second turn from the end I just keep screwing up. I either turn too soon and drop onto a rail track or spin a little late and overshoot. Really annoying. But in the Carbon X12 the Road and Showtime Rules are easy enough.

Xor (also known as The Best Puzzle Game Ever). Downloaded (along with everyone else) Crossover last night but Xor will not run properly. It is not supported though so I have no complaints. What it does run though is Grim Fandango but only in fullscreen. I’m pretty sure this is unsupported too. (GF needs 1300MB for a full install, 4MB video RAM and requires a Pentium 133. Who says you need the latest and greatest? Parallels will run Xor very nicely, but it can’t handle the graphics in GF. Again not something I can complain about. If only Crossover would let the -w switch work I’d be really happy.

And I gave up trying to install XP onto the eeePC 701 this evening. Kept hitting errors no matter what I did and following the eeePC forums didn’t help for some reason. No matter though – the hardware doesn’t change even if the OS does. Might have a crack at Ubuntu though. That said, you can nlite XP down to a few hundred MB – I have no idea how small Ubuntu can be made.

A bad lad.

A Very British Gangster.

Liked the film / documentary. Great soundtrack and very revealing. Wonder what people in that film thought and will think in the future. And Dominic Noonan? I don’t see the problem.
There’s a quote at the start of The Departed where Frank Costello says:

I don’t want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me.

I saw Noonan as being the former. I don’t mean that he is not a problem because I’m sure that to some he is, not least of which the police. But that maybe the root causes need to be looked at because others will just take his place because the root causes are not being tackled.

The third reason.

The family of murdered British exchange student Meredith Kercher is seeking £20m in compensation for her death. BBC

There is compensation to make up for lost earnings, lost abilities.
There is compensation which is punitive.
There is compensation which is all about the money.

You can’t bring someone back, the person responsible will be dealt with according to the law so why £20 million? How do you even start justifying that?

Moving damply

The Red Cross just delivered some bathroom equipment which will help J. I had to test it first – after all I can hardly tell her it’s safe because it says so in the manual. It is very odd moving into and out of a bath when you limit yourself to the equipment and more so when it’ll be done in the wet. Machinery can be a nice thing but raising and lowering in a bath feels genuinely strange – and I could get out if I needed to. Apparently we cannot use it until the person who ordered it for J has been around and checked it, done a risk assessment and shown us how to use it. Well the guy checked it, she should have done the assessment already and I can figure the rest out all on my own. And if it can take me, it’ll take J. And it was indeed the Red Cross. Not the Council, not any part of the NHS. So either the Red Cross are filling a gap or the NHS are leaving that gap because they know the charity will fill it. As I have said before, do not think that Services we have – and that your tax apparently pays for – are there to help you. It is an illusion.

The little big planet music

Manzoor Moghal, of the Muslim Forum think-tank, explained that words from the Koran should not be set to music because the words are seen to have come directly from God.

He added: “We must compliment Sony for taking decisive action by withdrawing these games immediately, and releasing a version that is not offensive to Muslims.” BBC

Well I really hope that Manzoor Moghai now gets Myspace and Amazon closed down because not only so they have the music they are selling it to. For two years. Don’t want to pay? Well get The Pirate Bay shut down for letting people get it for free.

What next? What other double standard will be used?
The more you dictate the less people like you.

[Update: Now Google need to be shut down because it's on Youtube]

mxhub.com – spammers

There is a dirty little company going around forums promoting the fact that they will install hundreds of blogs. I asked them something:

Hi, I saw your post at Digitalpoint.
You say you can setup blogs and customize them. This is what I would
be after:
- I choose 5 themes, each blog to use one of those
- feedwordpress installed and prepopulated with the feeds I will be
pulling in. There will one set of feeds for every 10 blogs.
- cron jobs set up to regularly pull the feeds in
- my adsense publisher ID to be inserted into each blog / plugin as
needed
- I would like the default ping list in the blog changed to one I
already use elsewhere. It pings 30 services.
- do you auto-upgrade? I’d like these blogs set up and for me to do
nothing except collect those Google checks :)

Hi Mark,
It can be done.

Do you have MSN , AIM or skype?
It is easier for me to take down all the things you need.
Skype: mxhub.com
MSN: joseph@mxhub.com
AIM: jjwaterfall82

I suggest setup a blog with all the plugins & theme..i will duplicate it into multiple copies.

Do you have root access for your server?

So if you too want to join the splogging, spamming and thieving pondlife you just need to give joseph at mxhub.com your money.

mxhub.com – content theft our speciality.

More lies from the BBC.

BBC : Fraudsters’ website shut in swoop
A website used by criminals to buy and sell credit card details and bank log-ins has been shut down after a police operation, the BBC has learned.

The Register : DarkMarket carder forum revealed as FBI sting
Leaked documents have confirmed that carder forum DarkMarket was actually an FBI sting operation.

The BBC just gets worse and worse. Police PR now – this to distract attention from something else maybe?

Things by Cultured Code

I really want to like Things by Cultured Code. I have the desktop trial and bought the Touch version. But I have hit problem after problem and there is no help.
Their forums are not visited by their devs. Given this is pre-release you would expect the devs to be there daily to see what was being said, what problems, what solutions. But they are not. This is also a commercial program. It’s not open source, it’s not free in any way at all yet they have a wiki where they expect people to write their docs. What? Why should people do that? Shouldn’t the devs be writing the docs for the program they will sell to make them money? Relying on a screencast from a fan that does not actually explain anything does not equal documentation.
I’m not stupid and I have tried several ways of entering the information to present in the way I want and this has entailed removing everything and re-adding. This is all the more annoying because you can’t tell if you will get the screwup until midnight so the agony continues every morning.

So I have sent in a request through the program asking for a refund for the Touch version. On the iTunes page it says “Things Support” and there is none. Great it may be but until there is a way for me to find out what the hell I am doing wrong it stays firmly in the “Could do better, write it properly”.

(And while I’m here, their forum search: “Your search is running, please be patient.” No, write better code. That gets really old really fast.)
