So Apple lock the mac down at the firmware level so it can only play a single DVD region. And they do this to get into bed with the film studios. Stupid on many levels. But I have Region 1 DVD’s – right now the uncut Leon (which is infinitely better than the theatrical release) and the first season of the amazingly superb Diagnosis Murder. And I want more from not just R1. So what do I do? I buy a multi-region DVD player produced by Sony. The Sony DVP-NS36 is a cracking machine (little wide maybe). Cheaper from Amazon than ebay too. So why do Sony lock down Apple but make these machines? Because they can probably – that’s lock down Apple because they can.
It’s probably a tool to lock down their laptop sales at the same time to a certain extent.
Apple have done this from the start when it was considered normal. But to continue this practice these days is shameful.
