Poor Mr Cutillo

“It’s all been blown up out of proportion. We’ve been victimised by this, penalised when we have no blame.” … “What we need now,” says Mr Cutillo, as we say goodbye to his buffaloes, “is for the politicians to make a stand and the institutions to come out and make it clear that the problem has been dealt with. Because there have been so many conflicting reports that people don’t know what to believe. Then it needs to disappear from the newspapers and the TV. Because if it carries on like this it will be a disaster.” Independent

In 1996 Italy banned British Beef. It was not until 2006 that Italy lifted that ban. So Mr Cutillo will have to excuse people like me who don’t give a damn about him and his poisonous cheese. If you will not give one country the benefit of the doubt then why in hell should we care even one bit about your over-priced chunks of dioxin?

total width 43mm

I decided to resurrect / redecorate some holes. The lobes which at the widest were some 22mm (maybe more, I forget) will not close below 10mm so they have new 12mm tunnels in so the fit is snug. The septum has a 6mm double flared tunnel, the left lobe also has a 5mm double flared tunnel and 4mm segment ring and the tongue tops it off with a 4mm bar (it had been empty but I finally found a 12mm length bar which should fit nicely. So that’s a total width of 43mm in my head. Nice :)

Reaching out

Yesterday, the coroner heard that one witness shouted: ?Oh my God, he?s killed his kids?, as she watched Liam reach for his little sister as they plummeted 50ft to the ground. Times Online

One of the saddest things I have ever read, probably will ever do.

Another lens or just the one?

I’m going to buy a new camera, and from reviews the Canon 400D looks to be the one. Or the Nikon D60. That decision will be taken in Jessops when I get my hands around one, but I need some lens advice. The default lenses are – esp for the Canon – getting some dire reviews but I have no idea if the reviewer is being very critical from a technical pov or just because it’s not for them. But another lens is a significant chunk of cash. I’ve checked various sites and forums and the reviews get quite technical and beyond what I may want to do, but both the above apparently make settings easier to play hence the choice of 2.
So, does the initial lens actually make a difference for someone like me or should I be looking to buy extra at initial purchase? I’m not after some huge upgrade path, just a good camera that will take better (crisper, more vivid) images than my current one. (And I’m asking because I like to go into stores and tell them what I want without giving them the chance to sell me what they want me to have).

Eyecandy at Five

Five’s evening news bulletin has seen its ratings increase by 72% since Natasha Kaplinsky made her debut as presenter last month. BBC

Someone somewhere will try and make out it’s not her, that it’s not just about how she looks, that it’s actually about her delivery, her knowledge, her expertise. And that would be complete crap. She has that super-annoying flirty girlie attitude. I’ve said before (in the other blog) about how on BBC Breakfast she just went all gushing and teenaged toward some male guests. (I swear that if they’d unzipped….). So if someone at Five things it’s about anything but eye candy then they fool only themselves and whatever yes-men they have around.

Truth and Teachers

Teachers have voted to oppose military recruitment activities in schools if they employ “misleading propaganda”.
Young people must be given a true picture of Army life, not a “marketised version”, the National Union of Teachers conference heard. BBC

By that same criteria, they also have to stop teaching religion, give the harsh reality of certain careers (nursing and teaching spring to mind), tell the truth about what their exam results will actually get them (very little), that the law has no teeth and misbehaving isn’t such a big deal, that drinking can be great fun and isn’t all bad and many other things about life. The Careers Office should have a notice on the door advising kids that shocks are in store. They should also quit with the Political Correctness because that in itself is propaganda.

Educators use fear to get what they want as much as politicians use lies to further their aims, so if the NUT want the Armed Forces to tell the truth then maybe they should start looking at the propaganda they pour daily into impressionable minds.

Edit: Paul McGarr of the NUT. You are just a leftist namby-pamby pathetic piece of scrap whose school should be ashamed you are employed there. If you were my daughter’s teacher I would be complaining about you already. IDIOT.

Hide the way to hell!

Yesterday I posted about how the Catholic faith would not support any sort of embryo research because it goes against their God’s teachings. I think they are selfish, narrow-minded, bigoted and various other negative terms for this and other things.
Today I read in the news that the Government are thinking about hiding the display of cigarettes in shops. Given the bright and ever more inventive ways that the cigarette manufacturers come up with to display their legal wares this is probably no bad thing. Do the Catholics say anything about that? Do they say anything about a drug/habit that kills people, that kills their followers and stops their further contribution to the (already rich) Vatican coffers? No, they do not. Probably because cigarettes are not covered in the Bible – not that this stops them on embryo research (“And from the mount Jesus said ‘Do not fiddle around with small clumps of cells even if it could make lots of people better. They got ill so they must die. It is the way of The Lord’”). But there is something else in those same shops which the vatican followers are studiously ignoring.

Offenses against chastity
2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. “Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action.”

So bashing the bishop is not just not allowed it is really really bad. It paves the road to hell.

2354 Pornography …. is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

Do we hear calls to remove the top shelf magazines? i think not.

[This one is especially for members of the Catholic clergy who have raped, abused and those who have just said "Well these things happen" and muttered some pathetic apologies:
2356 Rape is the forcible violation of the sexual intimacy of another person. It does injury to justice and charity. Rape deeply wounds the respect, freedom, and physical and moral integrity to which every person has a right. It causes grave damage that can mark the victim for life. It is always an intrinsically evil act. Graver still is the rape of children committed by parents (incest) or those responsible for the education of the children entrusted to them.]

Do we hear any Cardinals preaching in the press about the wanton displays of naked flesh? Do we hear them crying that while smoking might make the lungs twitch that spanking the monkey will make people go blind? No. But why not? The above quotes are actually from the Vatican website and they mention masturbation, chastity, lust and others which if the magazines were removed would go a great way to reducing.
That’s the problem with religion. They pick and choose just what to get all animated about and quietly ignore everything else until they need a few more coins in the coffers at which point they wheel out the “God says you shouldn’t stuff”. And the Catholic Church is the worst for it. Sure we have Rowan Williams whining about Slavery (“Yes we took you in the name of our Lord, we raped, we pillaged, we tortured, killed and sold you but hey, I’ll say sorry and we’ll call it quits. Cool?”) but it’s usually those who hail to Rome who do this. It’s like they are trying to impress the Pope, but that would be just childish wouldn’t it.

The God Squad interfere yet again.

The government says the medical benefits of allowing the creation of hybrid embryos for research purposes could ease the suffering of millions of people, including those affected by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. BBC

The Archbishop of Cardiff, the Most Reverend Peter Smith, said he has privately advised MPs, including at least one minister, to vote against certain aspects of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill icWales
W.T.F? Since when are elected representatives the lackeys of the Church? Since when did the ideas of the Vatican get to rule people who have been chosen to represent that actual people in the constituency? Since when did the Vatican get to rule this non-Catholic country?

Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor said: “I think Catholics in politics have got to act according to their Catholic convictions, so have other Christians, so have other politicians.” BBC again
So everyone has to act in the way that the Cardinal says? He is covering every base there, he is including atheists and his intimation is that everyone must vote against it. Talk about intolerance. what he actually means is “If you vote for this Bill then you are nothing.” He is trying to make them an offer they cannot refuse. Sad thing is that some spineless politicians will believe him.

Brown is being told by his own supporters that he must offer MPs a free vote to avoid a ministerial clear-out, which could include Catholic ministers such as Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly Scotland on Sunday
Now that is a great idea. That woman should not be in government anyway.

I would naturally assume that all the MP’s who vote in this way are perfectly happy that they are not acting democratically. You know how we read that the whole of the US wants something to happen, The Senate wants it to happen, Congress wants it to happen and the President says ‘No way” and kills it? That is what the MP’s will be doing.
There are over 60,600,000 people in the UK and yet only 861,000 are Catholics. That is less than 1.5% that are trying to make the whole country act in their way. If you had 200 people in front of you who could make a choice and just 3 said to do something would you seriously just go with them? Wouldn’t you insist on a wider view? Wouldn’t you actually think that those 3 were being big-headed and selfish? Wouldn’t you resent them?

It is also shocking the amount of time the media are giving to the Cardinal and his mates and how little – that’s none – is given to the medical benefits.

Let’s not forget that if they – the Vatican god-botherers – had their way then there would be no abortion under any conditions and no contraception (and no real apologies for all the child abuse they inflict). Free vote or not this Bill needs to pass and for it to fail because a few robed individuals choose to toe the Vatican line would be shameful.

Should have had that jab

Last autumn I was offered the flu jab as I fall into the high risk group. For one reason or another I didn’t go. Big Mistake. Huge. It struck last Tuesday evening and I still have all the symptoms. They are slightly less severe but I really do not recall being so ill so badly and for so long. It was that bad that I was practically incapable of work which given I work from home and can use the laptop anywhere should give some idea just how poorly I must have been. I was even having to sleep during the day (There are people for whom an ‘afternoon nap’ acts as a refreshment, as a boost and is a pleasant experience. Not me. I feel like crap for the rest of the day. Generally speaking no matter how bad I feel sleeping in the day makes me feel worse.) While I wouldn’t describe myself as fit I’m not entirely unfit either – if someone less healthy got this it would be horrendous for them. I will certainly never miss a flu jab again and if you ever get the chance for one, do not pass it by.

Day 4.

Not good.

Insecure NHS

As of 03:14 today someone needs to start changing passwords…… before the Press find out. (I have emailed them – nhsdirect that is)
