Geldof <3 Blair

BBC – Poverty campaigner Bob Geldof has called the G8 summit “a farce” and used strong language to describe the leaders of the nations attending it.

That’s the usual rhetoric from someone who seemed okay at Live Aid but who has sunk since. Everyone knows that these things are nothing but an ego-fest. Expecting anything to actually get done is beyond foolish.

He praised Tony Blair, who he said had “gone out all guns blazing” in an effort to get the eight nations to deliver on previous aid commitments.

Get a grip Bob – of course he can say what the hell he wants. He is no longer in power – he is powerless, his words are empty and the other leaders don’t give a flying one for him. He’s not in the game. But is Sir Bob examining Blair’s record? Fact is that Tony Blair’s record isn’t so hot either so maybe if he had played the game and played it properly his performance now would mean something. But he didn’t.

So Bob, gear up for the next summit where you can go confident in the knowledge that no matter what is done you will find some excuse to jump on the soapbox and look to be a hero. Excuse me while I yawn. Again.
