How damn stupid is that?

Buy next version of Trillian? Not a chance.

Edit: It’s little things like this that irritate me hugely.
There is a forum I use which has at any time something like 500+ users online at any time. It’s phpbb. Search is not crippled with a captcha. So why the trillian ones?
It’s not that I am averse to building what I want. I have a build of Miranda which took me ages to get right. Lots of fitting the pieces together for the free software to work perfectly as I wanted. I was happy to do that because at no time did I feel someone was getting in my way. Someone chose to have that captcha.
It’s not that I won’t look – I was trying.
It was that I wanted help, I wanted information and the people that I gave money to for a program put a completely unnecessary hoop in the way and told me to jump through it. There is no justification for that stupid little image.

Bad reporting (and not the BBC)

British police Friday foiled two massive car bombings in the heart of London

No they did not. Others foiled them. Admittedly the first guys at the scene had balls of steel to disarm the bomb, but they were foiled by the actions of others.

The device had been disabled by officers called to the scene in Haymarket

Called by members of the Ambulance Service. That’s an important detail and should be at the top of the story not buried deep inside.

Authorities safely defused both devices planted in the Mercedes vehicles parked not far from each other in one of London’s busiest areas.

That implies they were not only parked together but were still together. They were not still together.

US and British authorities have been in close contact since the first bomb was discovered and US President George W Bush received a briefing by national security aides

So the hell what? Like he gives a damn.

And one small detail:

British Police …placed the city on a high level of alert only three days after the country’s leadership changed hands.

Gordon Brown took office on 27 June. It’s now 29 June. In fact it was less than 2 full days. But M&C say 3 days.

Monsters & Critics. That’s the place to go when you don’t want real news. Idiots.

News.

“And there now we have a policeman with a camera on a tripod presumably taking photographs for evidence”

BBC News 24. Gripping stuff.

Arm complete

Took about 4 hours. Because the basics were done Neil was able to complete as he moved from top to bottom there was no tattooing over already angry areas which meant the whole experience was less painful. The colour has doubled which is what I wanted and should be brighter when it’s settled. The few photos in-progress were spoilt by the flash and this isn’t so good. When it calms I’ll do better. (There’s a lot more than you can see!)

bad photo of tattoo

And I feel like I have the flu.

I want one.

A friend came round. He has a phone on a contract and he likes to have the latest one. He had an LG Chocolate which he thought was cool, I didn’t like. The next model I forget – but now he has the N95.

I want one.

It is really really nice.
I can’t afford one.
I can’t justify one.
I really can’t justify one .. but I could moblog better ..
But I want one.

It’s got real buttons!
It’s by a company that knows what they are doing.

If I had the cash to completely and utterly waste then J would take it off me and tell me I didn’t need it. And she’d be right. Doesn’t stop the want though :)

Go Germany!!

Germany has banned the makers of Tom Cruise’s new movie from filming at military sites in the country because the actor is a Scientologist. BBC

Brilliant! Shame other countries – including the UK – can’t take the same step against the cult.

Judge Julian Hall does not see sex offences as crimes

Keith Fenn removes her clothes and rapes her.
Darren Wright takes her home and assaults her.

Keith Fenn will be free in 8 weeks.
Darren Wright is free already.

The girl was 10.

Judge Julian Hall said this was most difficult decision he had ever made but she looked 16 and was dressed provocatively.

This is the same judge that told a paedophile to buy his victim a bike.

Keith Fenn and Darren Wright deserve to have real justice meted out to them in a prolonged and painful way. They are paedophiles now – so where do they live?

If Judge Julian Hall has no problems with sex offenders that actually says so much about him and his attitudes. It’s not the law at fault here. It’s him. Maybe he thinks of little girls as sex objects too if he finds nothing wrong with it.
If the politicians want to restore faith in justice then he is the ideal sacrifice. Okay so no-one will believe a thing the politicians say but at least it’ll get this sex crime lover off the bench.
If his wife were mugged and battered would he accept the defence that “she looked rich” ? I doubt it, but why not?

No-one had the right to do that regardless of how a girl was or was not dressed. For them to do that renders them beneath contempt but for someone to say that it was okay just legitimised that behaviour for all other sex offenders and those that will hope he presides over their trial.

The sentences should be hugely increased – they have taken something away from the rest of her life – but Judge Julian Hall should be sacked. He hasn’t got a single bloody clue.

Unborn tractors

“For example, in the absence of movie piracy, video retailers would sell and rent more titles. Movie theatres would sell more tickets and popcorn. Corn growers would earn greater profits and buy more farm equipment.” src: digitalspy

So, every time you grab that film from thepiratebay a tractor doesn’t get built. Which hurts the engine builders and the tyre makers and the hydraulics makers and everyone else involved in creating that tractor. It seems rather simple then:
- pay for a ticket at the cinema and cause a tractor to be born
- torrent the film
The former costs a few quid and is very bad for the environment what with all that manufacturing and waste products.
The latter costs nothing and is environmentally friendly.

No-brainer really.

The book not the film

Last night finished reading Donnie Brasco. Good book. I’ve had the DVD for a long time but the few times I’d tried to watch it the film hadn’t grabbed my attention. So after finishing the book I wondered whether watching the film would be a good idea. No it would not, so I did and now I’m going to say the film was really not that good at all.
The blurb on the cover was praising the film hugely but then it had Pacino (excellent), Depp (okay), Madsen (too young) in so it was always going to garner some good reviews.
They tried to squash too much story into too few minutes. It jumped really badly, the plot was thin, no depth. The domestic scenes were unnecessary. The only scene – just the one – that I thought was close to the book was when the cops raided Kings Court. The end both of the undercover operation and of the film were poor – the former was just wrong and badly so, the latter was empty. Maybe it was too ambitious to try and squeeze 6 years into 120 minutes but then they shouldn’t have tried.
I’d recommend the book certainly but the DVD will go dusty and unwatched.
