IM naming

I’m still switching slowly from Mark to Mark and getting ID’s is as hard as regular people now. Mark was always free – what person would choose that for a name eh? – but Mark is pretty common. Flickr have done the Yahoo login thing which is what reminded me to check a couple of things. I don’t use Flickr but my account there is – unsurprisingly – Mark. My Yahoo IM account was p_odz (I think) and although I’m confident markmarkmarkmarkmarkmarkmarkmarkmarkmarkmark might be free as an account it just isn’t as snappy as I’d like. So…. same problem as other places.
GTalk is tamba2 which is my email which fits the domain. No real problem there.
subnoto is AIM/MSN and that is close to Mark (yes it is..)
markr is irc – and now OpenID too. I have the ClaimID for Mark but – again – I could not get Mark so the ‘r’ variant is at least in keeping with irc. And I got the OpenID when signing up at Zooomr – which was a surprise for an image site. An image site I will try and actually use.
I can manage 3 identities. (I’d like to pretend I can multitask too but J reads this sometimes and she would have me for saying that :) )

Still, names. What will my girls use? When does the IM name nonsense stop? At least ICQ never pretended you were more than a number but the others would have us believe that their IM program is warm and fuzzy even if you do have a name of iamapersonwiththenumber736535678202 or something equally daft. Can’t they come up with something that tries to give more sanity to this?

Keyboard irritation

The vast majority of people I support are IE users. Right now there is a theme I need to look at in IE6 because that is where the problem lies. But I’ve got everything running on the mac. The PC is doing zero right now. And I cannot use the mac kb/mouse on the PC because the mac cannot act as the synergy server. So I need to use 2 keyboards and 2 mice which gets really annoying really fast.
Go back to the reason I have the mac: to be able to give support to mac users. If mac users are in the minority of the audience I serve, then shouldn’t it figure that I use the mac the minority of the time? I know I could get pirated Parallels and XP but I just cannot be bothered to do that and I see no need to actually spend that cash when I’ve a perfectly good PC sitting here.

So do I stay on the mac and resign myself to using the PC keyboard a couple of dozen times a day at least or do I go back to the PC and use the mac kb maybe once a week? Right now the latter seems more attractive …

I wonder when I’ll get the Vista stuff rolling in…

13 hours

Sleep. I lost my whole morning so my list of what I wanted to do today has been shifted by 12 hours.

Anyway, mini now has 1.25gb installed. I’m using it now – because I intend on starting NWN later – so I shall see what is what in a later post. You’ll notice which post when the fanboys that posted before descend and completely ignore what is actually said and instead preach from whatever altar they see themselves as being perched on. I wanted to get an iSight but the Apple guy said he had no stock and they were discontinued ahead of whatever little techfest happens in a few months. So it’s Logitech or wait said the guy in the Apple shop. One of the Apple fanboys said Logitech couldn’t make drivers for shit so maybe I should listen to such profound wisdom and wait for the shiny blessed cam. Or maybe I should listen to the Apple guy. Maybe I should just choose which looks the nicest, costs the most.. ? Hell, even the last one there seems a fine way of doing it. Fanboys. Gotta feel sorry for those with such low foreheads.
Whatever – I continue to give the mac a fair crack and the gig of memory means that it actually has 25% more memory than my PC. So I expect good things. (I await someone telling me that it really needs more.)

Back Home

One memory of the flight. The plane descended from the skies toward Los Angeles airport. From the bright white above all the clouds, through the slightly turbulent and slightly grey clouds and into mud. The skies were clear in a brown sort of way. I could see out over to right wing and there was thick dirty brown cloud hanging over the city. It looked horrendous. I’ve seen thick fog, I’ve seen smog over a city before but this was off that scale. Amazing.

Anyway……. I have many many photos that need rotating and some more of Casa Buena to complete the week so at some point I’ll get round to that.

This is me.

I’m a Porsche 911!

Orion above

There’s a field where I take Winston for a walk. Part of that field is down a track and it has a sunken area in the middle. Standing in that cuts most of the light out so the sky and starts can be seen really clearly. I like Orion. I’ve always liked that constellation I suppose because it is so easy to identify. The MIB reference just adds to the coolness too. Anyway, as I type this it’s just after 7pm and I could be back home at 7pm one evening and out with the beast, standing in that field looking at Orion. And here I am in Mexico where I just stood outside in the dark looking at Orion.
I know the explanations. I know how it all works but that sort of thing seems so odd, makes the wonder of the world and space all so real. It’s like looking at the sun setting, or the moon and knowing that someone half the world away can see the same thing at the same time. It makes the world so huge yet maybe so small too.

Tennis in La Paz

I really should have been playing and practising on the Wii from when we got it but I never got round to it. Which was a shame. Then I would not have lost the La Paz Tennis Tournament so really badly. I played twice – once with Toni and once with Matt T. I lost both. In fact I didn’t win a game. The winner in the end was Matt M – and no smashed wiimotes either :)
