ITV Censorship

The film Uncle Buck is on and I just happened to glance at it. It’s a great film and I’ve seen it many times.
When Buck goes to the school there is a scene with his niece Maisie. She is sat in the classroom and when she answers a question the young male teacher brandishes a ruler and says “Blasphemer“. They cut it. Why?
That means they put that word on the same level as ‘Fuck’. On the same level as nudity, sex.
But isn’t the word ‘Blasphemer’ something that applies to all religions? So a Muslim could use it as readily as a Catholic? So it is a multi-religion word, a multi-religion concept…….. except when it is used in a family film and the word is being applied to the Christian god. In such a case it requires censorship. Bizarre. Pathetic. And indicative of a terrified corporation who dare not offend anyone. Except Christians.

  1. They’re getting worse actually… just saw 2 movies today censored needlessly today on ITV2…

Firstly, Crocodile Dundee 2… “Shoot the dopey bastard” was removed later on in the movie along with another instance of the same word being used in the Walkabout Creek bar by Donk and yet they had let the phrase “son of a bitch” go in the same scene?!? What gives?? The movie was shown later on in the afternoon and I’ve seen worse broadcast at the same time…

Then, I saw Police Academy 4 was on… only watched an hour of it and have noticed a couple of censorship instances, most notably that of the ‘wet t-shirt scene’ and yet this movie was broadcast at 8pm and that scene most definately did not occur before 9 o’clock… besides, it isn’t even actual nudity.

For the record ITV has broadcast both movies totally uncut in the past in similar timeslots (as I have old VHS recordings to prove it!)

Co-incidentally both of the above movies feature Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb… hmmm… anyways…

ITV is starting to really piss me off as I can no longer bare to watch movies on any of their channels because unneccesary censorship spoils my viewing pleasure each and every time. I think the only time I have been more pissed at them was when they butchered Robocop to death way back when (removed all language and almost all violence even though the movie wasn’t scheduled to begin until after 11pm!)
