The BBC get it wrong pt4

Pope ‘sorry’ for offence to Islam (BBC)

Pope Benedict XVI has said he is sorry that a speech in which he referred to Islam has offended Muslims.

No he hasn’t. The Catholic World News don’t even say that and if any organisation is going to squirm around and make something up it’s them. Why are the BBC lying?

The Holy Father thus sincerely regrets that certain passages of his address could have sounded offensive to the sensitivities of the Muslim faithful

Saying the word “regret” we all know means that you are not actually sorry. It means something more like “Damn I’ve been found out and I know you want me to say sorry but I won’t because I’m not and given half a chance I’d do it again”. “Regret” is a weasel word. It’s what corporate execs say when their dirty deeds are discovered. The pope doesn’t regret a damn thing – and conveniently forgets the majority of christian history too. If the pope had even the tiniest bit of decency he would have said Sorry. But he didn’t and what happens as a result he was the catalyst for.
