More words please

I always thought that images being used in journalism should add to a story, enhance it, explain where words might fail. I thought that such images would be labelled or captioned in some way because sometimes it’s just not obvious when there is a connection. But the journo who wrote this piece about XP running on an Apple Mac must have missed that class at school.

I can understand the significance of the feat, and I can understand how many Mac users will now be pleased that can run a better OS (joke!) but what I can’t understand is that little image. The BBC article does not mention games and unless you check the alt text for the image you’ll not know what it is – and even then it’s not something that is immediately obvious as being a Microsoft-only product (maybe a screenshot of Solitaire would have been better..). It’s a daft image to use – and it’s also a poor image.
