Mother loses ‘right to know’ case

An excellent decision.
Children have every right to confidentiality when seeking medical advice, and just because this woman made a decision she regretted gave her no right whatsoever to dictate how other people should live their lives. None. Zero. I said what I thought before so I’ll not repeat it, but Mrs Axon ? Get over it and stop trying to be such a control freak. For once the law saw sense.

  1. The problem with bringing the law into these kind of arguments is that it immediately makes it a black or white discussion when, invariable, it’s not. What’s right for some isn’t right for others. Privacy aside surely there are some under-16s who aren’t emotionally mature to make these kind of decisions??

Not that I would force them to do anything, and it IS their right… but.. well.. as I say, it’s a very VERY grey area this.

I agree – and in such cases it has to fall to the systems we have in place to move in a way that is best. But the law is the bluntest of instruments here and no parent must ever be able to use the law in such a way.

Grey …. isn’t everything to do with personal choice ? :)

  3. Shades of grey for most personal decisions yes. Some societal decisions are definitely black.
