I have just done something which I last did probably back in 2001 – and it felt wonderful :)

At 6 months

On 21 July I posted the picture here. He’s grown a bit since. Winston now weighs in at 49kg / 108lbs / 7st 10 and his shoulder is above my knee (and I’m 6ft 2in).
He is not finished growing …. (and I’ll try to get another picture).
He would like to chase bikes, is spooked by the low rumble of slow moving juggernauts, doesn’t quite yet understand that everyone else in the world may not love him, can put his head straight onto the dining table without stretching, ran inside the other day when it started snowing on him, loves horses and can stand and stare at them for ages. He also goes to dog training class every sunday – he is the equivalent of the pupil at the back of the class falling asleep.
And …. as if I didn’t know and despite all my protests to the contrary at the time and all the promises I was given, it’s down to me to walk him and exercise him everyday. Each time he sees me with my boots on and a coat he thinks it’s time for a walk. He asked for a walk two days ago – he lifted his paw and ‘asked’. Trouble was that his paw landed right between my legs – the females in the house found this hilarious. I did not and the first part of the walk was considerably slower.
Ah well…. time for “Heel!” training ….
No Memoirs, you will break them
Film: Memoirs of a Geisha. Not only do Sony was to break my computer they also want to shatter the mental images and emotions concerned with a book that is certainly in my Top 5 ever read. This film cannot possibly live up to the book – a fact emphasised by the cast being Chinese so the film is false from the outset. CNN report with video that already does not match my mind’s eye, comprehensive information and images from MonkeyPeaches.
“It’s not being made for a Japanese audience and it looks like they’re going to juice it up a bit.
No shit ! There is already a screenshot in the above which is absolutely NOT in the book and which is really important in what it is not conveying. Sony ? You f*cked up. Again.
One film to avoid and keep avoiding.
Hand to Mouse : Too much effort ?
From Lifehacker
I’m the kind of web surfer who’s never terribly happy when he has to move his hand over to the mouse
Now I know this is probably not what the author meant, but my very first thought – which still persists – was “Just how damn lazy are people wanting to be ?!?” RSI I could understand but “never terribly happy” seems …. gah.
Now if someone could just click that Publish button down on the right ? And bring up some more Fatboy Slim on Winamp, change the active window to IRC ….. and pass me a mince pie that P cooked earlier (part-chew it please – I’m never terribly happy munching pastry).

Matt. London. WordPress. 9 December.
A week on Friday Matt will be wandering around London. Where shall we tell him to bump into us ?
In the initial post, there were two definite suggestions:
Westi:
Fancyapint is a good site for finding places to meet. One of my favorites is The George Inn, Borough which has loads of outside meeting space and good drinksGregory:
How about anywhere in Brick Lane?
It’s a short walk from Liverpool Street, lots of places to eat. Great for a curry, not expensive (well.. as expensive as you want it to be).
Where ? When ? Who will be there / is hoping to be there ?

More Catholic nonsense
“How gay are you ?”
“Oh I’m definitely gay. Yes. I’m homosexual and I like me this way”
“Oh dear, you can’t be a priest then”
“And how gay are you ?”
“I’m a bit gay. Only a bit.”
“Right then ! You can be a priest.”
“And you … gay ?”
“Hm.. not sure. I’ve not done anthing gay for 2 years though!”
“You must wait 3 years. Another year and we’ll see you back here then ? Lovely”
“And last, how gay are you ?”
“Totally. Homosexual through and through. I have sex with men whenever I can, I love choir boys and ‘assisting’ them in any way I can”
“Definitely you cannot be a priest. At all. We can’t have your sort joining our faith”
“But I am a priest already”
“Ohhh.. in that case come on in. Tea ? …..”
Vatican rules against gay priests. There is nothing wrong with being gay. There is everything wrong with the Catholic Church.
Gaming again

Last week or so, I mentioned that I’d installed MAME back into this machine. In the day or two that followed I set some hi scores (note: it is not ‘high score’ it is ‘hi score’) and unsurprisingly I have, in a couple of games, yet to beat those scores. (I actually got to, but failed to bomb, the final base in Scramble on my first go). But playing Rainbow Islands last night, I realised another thing that was missing from so many games now (apart from gameplay) – older games had two elements you could beat – the score and progression.
Take Rainbow Islands for instance. My hiscore is around 2.1 million and finished on the last section of Doh Island. But I could beat that score but not get as far, or I could get further but have a reduced score. The goal of course is both – but I can’t recall a recent game which has such dual goals. Sure, GTA and the sequels do have scores, but are they used ? No – they are almost incidental. Ikaruga has both and I would guess most shoot’em ups should have this, but that genre is a small one, a very small one (despite the fact that the roots of videogaming being deep into that territory). This duality lead to arguments over who really was best – the gamer who got the furthest, or the gamer who got the better scores through a better technique. (I always sided with whichever was best for me at that point :) ) I can think of only one game that I have played and wanted – and got – both. Rez. One of the best console games ever.
These posts must make me seem like some whinging old codger who bemoans the new-fangled stuff, but in reality I just think that the majority of what are sold now as games have lost that indefinable edge, that special something that made them games.
To the idiot on UPB
My post is now number ONE on Google UK and Google.com It beats the actual place itself – both when searched just as the school and as the school with the district.
For your simple mind this means that if anyone drops the name of your school into Google, they will see my result first. I have a part finished draft post. I also have around 20 choice quotes from usenet. You may be able to dismiss them to others on usenet (those that do not have you killfiled because of your puerile behaviour) and you may be able to justify them to yourself. How many times do you want to justify them to a parent ? How many times do you want your employers to justify them ? How many times until they get fed up of doing it ? Remember, I’m not going to print untruths. I am not going to fabricate anything – all I will be doing is transferring public postings from the relatively unsearched, possibly obscure to many people, usenet to the wonder that is the WWW. For that I cannot be touched. I would imagine that even you – the idiot – know what needs to happen for me to NOT publish that post. Do you ?
