Altering Reality

Saw the shrink earlier. I’m telling him about some things I don’t like and the topic of medication change comes up. I’m not one going for change just for it’s own sake but I think there is merit in a change and I explained why. His response was typical shrink: “Come back in x months and if y has happened, we’ll do z”. So while not expecting this response right here and now, I have seen medics use this tactic far too many times – it is short for “I can’t be arsed” or “I’m not sure” or “I have to ask the real Dr”. So I challenged him. I pointed out that in x months if y HAS happened he will blame it on another event we discussed and if y has NOT happened he will do precisely the same – so in x months we would be no further forward. So why not do it now. So he agreed. Result is that my reality will alter slightly (at least I hope that is the case) for the next few weeks and then hopefully settle at a level I am comfortable with but without the specific effects I’m having which were the force behind the change. I wonder if any changes will be noticeable here ?

Plugin Idea: Graph number of entries / week with size of entries / week and display over time. Would be interesting to see if there is a discernable difference.

Yesterday, P had a friend over and when they were playing a game in the back garden, a ball got hit into a back neighbours garden. Off she goes to get it back. Knocking on the door of the house in question, an old lady answers and asks P where she lives. On hearing the answer, the old lady says “Oh, your father is the new Vicar then ?”. (P put her right :) )

Two Soups

D has a lad she fancies. She talks to him every night on MSN using mic and webcam, she talks for far too long every night too ….., she is listening to the music he likes, we can hear her chatting and laughing and being the parent I am of my 14 year old daughter, the fact that Gary lives in Middlesbrough, some 270miles away is comforting. I have bought her a headset mic though :)

We took a huge pile of mail to the Estate Agents yesterday. All arriving here for the landlord – even US Voting Forms ! (I’d ask Why….). Also took a CD of pictures which show various parts of the house so when we leave they can’t point the finger and say it was our fault. The CD is also backed up and the files stored too. My money says it will come in damn useful.

And I am ridiculously busy. In the last week I must have done full-time online support and it’s got a little tiring the last two days what with real-life stuff creeping in. I’ve decided that I’m going to do this voice/msn stuff too (not voip – unless you know different – that costs) but only because it should speed things up a whole lot. D can teach me and hopefully Miranda will have plugins or whatever for it all to “just work”.

The Yes/No game

What an odd day ….. and the day will end without me sending the email I want to because I can’t yet find the words / order / something. I will send though :)

I’m using the bike at the gym and the treadmill too seeing as I can’t use the rower for the time I want. I did 1000m/Lvl 4 in 4:20 today but my breathing was shot to hell again – at least with the other two I can regulate my breathing and relax my upper body. The weights are paying off too and tomorrow I’ll try 20kg against me on the crunch machine.

The game ? I picked youngest up from school today, so I’m standing there in the playground thinking “Yes … No …..” heeeey….. we all do it :p

And I’ve two appts this week, neither of which I’m keen on going to. Well .. truth is that the d*ntist is one. Phobic is a truism. Ick.

Text indentation

Files that it is intended a user edit through the WP online editor should not have stupid amounts of indentation. In fact, they should have NONE. ZERO. NIL. If you want to look clever, fine, but go do it somewhere it does not impact on a user. Do what you want with core files, but index.php ? Indented to hell and back ? No No NO. (It’s ONE f*cking theme that drives me nuts on this. I would release an indentation free theme, but all it would consist of would be <?php ?>)

Getting organised

I went and got all busy …. damn ! That busy I’ve rejigged my wiki. See ? I’ve got one project that I’m doing with Lorelle for WP, I need to install WP a few more times into my sandbox domain and add some information to that index, a guy in the US wants more stuff doing for his site, another guy has an upcoming project and yet another bloke has something he is sending my way too so he says. On top of that, I’m doing other bits WP related, and then just to top it all off, I am also part of the newly launched http://freshlypressed.org. So yeah … I needed to get organised and it was dokuwiki to the rescue. I debated putting it online and password protected but then it’s running here under xampp perfectly happily, so here it stays.

A certain red car in the Monaco race just got broken. Shame :) :) :)

Upgrading …. In my hopping around blogs I installed for people I can see many are not running the latest 1.5.1.1 If you are unsure about upgrading at all – and I installed it for you in the first place or have previously done work on your blog – then how about you drop me an email with any reasons why you are unsure about the upgrade, and then I’ll do it for you if you wish ? I get info to push toward WP that can be learned from, and you get shiny new code. Deal ?

Early on a Saturday

The next phase of infiltrating every last corner of the net continues as Google roll out their “Adsense for RSS” crap. I cannot be the only person who when they see ads in any feed clicks the DELETE button. I don’t even care who supplies the ads – I don’t want them. Given the way information is presented in a reader, screen estate is at a premium so why would I want to clutter my screen with something I’m not going to click anyway ?. If you want to make Google richer, use it. If you want people to cancel your feed, use it. If you’ve any decency, don’t. (And if someone would be so kind as to invent the “Adblock for Feeds” that would be fantastic.)

So ….. what else this week: Asthma; – something in this house is triggering mine and it is getting worse, quite significantly worse actually. Not good. How the hell do I start trying to find trigger ? Youngest; – has something wrong but we know not what, probably metabolic, awaiting appt with a specialist. Zelda; – my game save has been corrupted…crapsticks and as I’m sure you know, WordPress 1.5.1.1 came out the other day and it’s lovely. Go get it.

And my little sandbox domain has generated some work which is nice.

Oh yes.. warez. Warez ….. now either the world just got honest (ha ha ha) or people stopped asking for cracks/serials (that’s wrong too probably) or Google have started to filter against that type of stuff. I notice less websites and less information in newsgroup searches than was there maybe a year or two ago. I know where to look and it’s all still there, in fact there may even be more information, yet Google chooses not to let users see that. Now you either filter / censor or you do not. It is, but hey, you know Google is acting in your best interests don’t you ?

The US said the photos appeared to breach Geneva Convention rules on the humane treatment of prisoners of war.
Let the lawyers into Guantanemo Bay and all your other prisons then. You don’t give a flying one about the Geneva Convention unless it suits you – odd that … if other regimes act that way the US condemns them. Wonder why ?
The conventions say countries must protect prisoners of war in their custody from “public curiosity”.
Just ‘public curiosity’ is it ? Nothing to do with US forces being able to torture away from the public view is it ? It’s one thing for a soldier to be accused of torture / ill-treatment when they are in the thick of battle and in genuine fear, but whatever is going in the places like G.Bay and the other US military installations has got nothing whatsoever to do with fear and adrenalin. It’s all to do with evil. Pure unadulterated evil – and all in the names of the citizens of the US.
Sow. Reap. Tough.

Why in hell can’t we have an elected leader who can stick two fingers up at both the US and Europe ? At least for a few years ?

What a waste of time that was …. just rang the BBC, CNN, ABC, ITV, C4, Sky, IRN, the print press and yet none of them are the slightest bit interested in featuring the story of my youngest having something wrong with her which as yet is not determined but which is potentially life-changing. Odd really, only the other day every media outlet I could access was going on about someone who has a known illness. Strange. Or not.

Why, when you say “War” do all yanks immediately say “Iraq” ? Get this – there is more than one war going on okay ?
