Sky News: covering bases

Watching the news today, I cannot have been the only one to think that there is a definite race on between channels to be the first to report the death of the Pope. Bizarre.

And Sky News – they went to a reporter in Krakow who stated that some years ago John Paul II had made what might have been his last visit to his home. Might ? C’mon – I’ve heard of being sure about something but that is just beyond a joke.

And the pictures of everyone massed in St Peters Square ? As an atheist it is beyond my comprehension………..

Its not all to do with religion. Its more like mass hysteria. Think about the deaths of many other “celebrities” over the last few years and the reactions of people eg. Diana, Queen Mum, Arafat, etc.

  2. It’s not really something I can comprehend either (though I’m not an atheist anymore, but neither do I follow an organised religion).

I guess he’s a very important person to many, and gathering in that way provides some comfort. Dino is right though, that can easily spill over into hysteria.
