Crapsticks

My wiki is dead – Instiki has died and from staring at the snapshots, trying to decipher the code and also searching, it has taken it’s contents with it. CRAP. That sucks hugely. So… will ruby have a place on my HD ? Not any more it bloody won’t. I’m not going to rant about it because although I have lost a load of data, it came with no guarantees and if you don’t keep backups, then we only have ourselves to blame. (Still annoying though … if I can figure out what I did I’ll mail the dev.) So in the meantime I’m hunting a new wiki ….

I have also given a lot of thought for a while now about what to do with my little guides, and as cryptic as this sounds, I now know exactly what I’m going to do. I’m not saying yet as there needs to be things done, but it’s nothing horrible.

Can’t get NWN to install, despite a new set of CD’s. Bugger.

And I’ve got some reading to do. Two chapters in and Mr Zeldman is looking quite readable :)

  1. I have that book too, though not had time to read it yet. You are infinately more knowledgeable than I am on the subject, so please do share your thoughts when you’re finished reading. :)

And sorry about the data loss, nothing more annoying. :(

  2. Shame about not getting NWN to install. I had the same problem with the serial number, I tried so many combinations before I got the right one, it really annoyed me.

Can’t remember if I had any problems or not, as I havn’t played it or installed it for a while.

  3. Well take solace in the fact that I’m off to backup MY stuff so you’ve certainly helped me out (errr… that’s supposed to be a good thing).

As for the Wiki I think the Codex one used by WP is one of the better ones I’ve seen. I’m working on a HaloScan one at the moment which isn’t too great (but better than the first one we tried!) if you want I can dig the name out for you.

  4. Heh – tales of digital woe always help others :)

I’ve just installed Docuwiki as flat files are cool too and daftly easy to backup. I do like mediawiki (ala Codex) and it is installed on another machine, but for what I need, it’s a heavyweight. There are so many to choose from though – and that is fun :)
