Honda: Still Filthy

No chaos image today – this one is from Honda.
P. was playing Neopets earlier, so I plonked in front of the TV to see what junk was on. In amongst the dross was an advert – from Honda. It starts with several car engines flying through a pretty cartoon-type landscape, and being ‘hated’ by the birds, the animals, a rainbow, in other words, nature. The track playing in the background – as you can read in the link above – “explains why hate can sometimes be a positive emotion!” and that Honda have made a nice shiny new diesel engine. In the ad, all of nature now loves this engine, because this engine is clean. In Honda’s BS, it states that this shiny loved-by-nature engine is “one of the cleanest, most refined diesel engines“.

Okay…. so within the advertising law that may be true. But clean is relative, and that company, along with all the other car manufacturers, still produce a product that pollutes our atmosphere daily to an unacceptable level. Cleanest is relative too.
Picture the scene: 10 coalminers turn up on your doorstep and want to be invited into your house. They are all thickly covered in coaldust, their boots are caked in mud and black gunk. You’d say No wouldn’t you ? But taking the Honda analogy, if one of the guys stepped forward and showed you his just washed hands, then he’d be the cleanest so you’d positively hug him, welcome him and plump up the cushions just for him. Bollocks.

Have they defined ‘cleanest’ ? Have they hell. It probably boils down to emitting a couple of dozen less parts per million of a minor gas that, when compared to the damage that the particle and carbon dioxide emissions do, is minimal – and I mean a minimal minimal. It’s all crap, and even more so because to keep it that way will probably require a service regime that is way over what the average motorist will do, and any testing done by the company to achieve their so-called figures will have been arrived at by testing carefully on a cycle of motoring use that cannot / will not be matched by a driver, and the fuel they used will have been suspect too. It’s been done in a lab. It’s been done to garner publicity.

Has it been done because Honda give a damn about the environment ? Not a chance.

Honda. Still Filthy.

That’s a lovely comparison which I totally agree with, but, unfortunately, I drive a Honda Accord. So, thank you for making me feel very guilty.

And thank you also for continuing to post the stats. I don’t really care whether I’m number 1 or number 101. I post for my enjoyment whether anyone believes that or not.

My one friend, Bill, his wife also has MS. That is a difficult life. I hope that everything is going well for you and your family, Mark.

Okay, I’ll shut up and drive my dirty Honda out of here, but first, did you know that we have something in common? Yes! Look at your toes. I recall you mentioning that yours run straight across – that the one next to the great toe is not longer than the others. Mine are the same.

    It’s a small world, isn’t it?

Okay, I’ll shut up now. :secret: Good night!

  2. Hi Curt :)
The stats are no problem at all – couple of 5 minutes jobs in the month, that’s all.

And my toes ? I’m sure I probably did write something, but when I did I haven’t a clue ! Remember, I don’t read all this junk, I just write it :)
